Is an online degree valid in India?
Validity depends on four exact details: the awarding institution, programme name, online mode and admission session. Checking only the university's general recognition is not enough.

UGC's 2020 regulations state that recognized online undergraduate and postgraduate degrees conforming to the rules are treated as equivalent to the corresponding conventional awards. Recognition must cover the relevant higher-education institution, programme, mode and admission period.

What exactly should you verify?
Programme name
Check that the specific degree, such as MBA, BBA, MCA or M.Com, appears for the institution.
Mode of delivery
Confirm that the programme is listed for Online mode. ODL or conventional approval is not automatically the same entry.
Academic session
Verify recognition or entitlement for the session in which admission is being taken.
Applicable regulator
If the programme involves a statutory or professional body, check its separate requirements as well.
Official admission channel
Match the admission confirmation and receipt with the authorized institution and retain both documents.

What does “equivalent to a regular degree” mean?

Recognition is admission-session specific. A university appearing in a general list does not replace checking the exact programme and mode.
